It is like a wooden shovel. How was it used?

Since hobiki net-fishing boats were made of wood, water sometimes seeped into or got into the boat while fishing. At that time, akatori was used to scoop up and pour the water into the lake. Akatori could be usually found on fishing boats. They were available at general stores in the town and were used as sweepers on the boats.
